People with stress issues often feel overwhelmed or experience doubt in related situations. The symptoms of stress can be physical, mental or emotional. Stress Management or Stress Therapy helps people learn how to manage their behavior in stressful situations.
Stress is universal and normal. Everyone feels stressed at some point in their life, but it’s often related to isolated events, such as a big test or an important interview. It can also commonly involve a major life decision, such as a career change, marriage or expecting a child. These isolated and often short periods of increased stress are normal. When stress is exceptionally high and/or it occurs over extended periods, getting stress management therapy can help. Stress management therapy can help to reduce stress levels, prevent and address the negative effects, boost mood, and increase quality of life.
Extreme stress can affect your overall health. For example, people with high stress levels often also have high blood pressure. Stress can negatively impact many body systems, including digestion, reproduction, bones and muscles, breathing, heart and circulation, nerves, tissues, organs, and hormones.
Stress can also affect your interpersonal or romantic relationships. Stress management can help patients recognize the causes of their stress and prepare for stressors or stressful situations. At Texas Whole Life Therapy, we use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Meditation and Mindfulness Training to help our patients deal with their stress.
Easy ways to reduce stress
In addition to stress management, there are many things we can all do to help us relax and move past increased stress, like:
- pause to breathe;
- take a walk;
- do something enjoyable;
- exercise;
- spend time in nature;
- engage in art or music therapy;
- meditate;
- do yoga or tai chi; or
- get a massage.
In addition to your stress management therapy, your therapist may suggest one or several of these techniques as part of an overall stress management plan.
Getting started takes just a few minutes and we can usually see new patients in as little as 3 days.
Making an appointment is quick and easy. After you submit your request, our office staff will send you information on how to fill out new patient paperwork, gather necessary documentation, and confirm your appointment. If it’s currently normal business hours, we’re usually in touch within one to two hours. Our goal is to see new patients within 3 days, although appointment availability may be influenced and limited by factors like your insurance plan and if you’d like to see a specific counselor.
