Sexual issues are quite common in many relationships. We have licensed therapists trained and experienced in dealing with sexual and physical intimacy issues. These are not the easiest topics to approach, but our counselors help patients with the issues in a supportive, inclusive, non-judgmental environment.
Couples of all ages and all types—married and otherwise—commonly report dissatisfaction with physical intimacy. Perhaps they feel they are not having sex as often as they once were, or simply that the passion is somehow missing from their sex lives. Similarly, many single individuals report intimacy issues to be one of the main obstacles to a healthy romantic relationship. Physical intimacy issues often lead to heated and persistent conflicts and frustration.
Due to cultural and family influences, many individuals experience much guilt, shame and embarrassment when it comes to physical intimacy. At the core of these feelings, there may be complicated and unrecognized feelings of anger, confusion and devaluing of the self. For this reason, intimacy issues are often treated not as a single, simple conflict in and of themselves, but rather as part of a larger difficulty in understanding and accepting one’s own personality.
Our licensed counselors can help individuals and couples work through sexual issues. Sexual disfunction or dissatisfaction is often rooted in psychological issues. We use psychotherapy (also known as talk therapy) in the treatment of these problems, which allows us to assess the feelings, thoughts and behaviors which cause sexual dissatisfaction.
There are some sexual disfunction issues which are not psychological in nature. As therapists, we do not treat physical or medical conditions that affect sex. Physical issues would require you to see your primary care physician, gynecologist or urologist.
Getting started takes just a few minutes and we can usually see new patients in as little as 3 days.
Making an appointment is quick and easy. After you submit your request, our office staff will send you information on how to fill out new patient paperwork, gather necessary documentation, and confirm your appointment. If it’s currently normal business hours, we’re usually in touch within one to two hours. Our goal is to see new patients within 3 days, although appointment availability may be influenced and limited by factors like your insurance plan and if you’d like to see a specific counselor.
